SMC Cares
We really do!
Our founders Ross Ausburn and Chuck Bachus believed in the importance of being connected to their community. They felt that it was their responsibility – in fact, their charge – to give back to the community that had provided such opportunity for them.
This belief has continued in subsequent generations of leadership, and is fully alive today. In SMC’s mission statement we talk about conducting our business in an ethically and environmentally responsible manner. And this informs one of our core philosophies:
Our Community Philosophy
We will be community-minded in our actions and actively participate in civic, charitable, and social groups to have a positive impact on the community that is vital to our customers, employees, vendors, and our company.
Some of our community partners:
- United Way of the Ozarks
- Boys & Girls Clubs
- Ozarks Regional YMCA
- Boy Scouts of America
- Springfield / Greene County Park Board
- Great Circle
- Springfield Public Schools (GOCAPS)
- Jobs For Life / Victory Mission Outreach
- Friends of the Zoo
- Community Foundation of the Ozarks
- Springfield Council of Churches
- James River Basin Partnership
- Watershed Committee of the Ozarks
United Way Partnership
We partnered with United Way of the Ozarks to create a first-of-its-kind Community Engagement in a Box toolset for CEOs throughout our community. We volunteered to design and create the box components, making a unique and attention-grabbing package that encourages community involvement. See a local news story from December 2021 about the project.
"In every community, there are those organizations that step up when needed...every time. SMC Packaging Group is one of those organizations in our community. Whether serving on various community boards and committees, or doing manual labor during our annual Day of Caring volunteer event, SMC walks the talk of community ownership."
